If you’ve ever hopped on a Zoom call with Pen or Ria, you’ve likely seen a tail flicker across the screen or heard a soft “meow” in the background. At Hostperia, our cats aren’t just pets; they are our unofficial “Quality Control” team.
But as we spent hours debugging code and crafting brand stories, we realized something surprising: Our cats actually know a lot about building a world-class digital presence.
Here are 4 things our feline friends taught us about web design:
1. If it’s cluttered, we’ll trip over it.
Have you ever seen a cat navigate a room full of obstacles? They are masters of the “graceful path.” If there is too much junk on the floor, they simply won’t go there.
The Web Lesson: Your website visitors are the same. If your homepage is cluttered with too many pop-ups, giant blocks of text, and 15 different buttons, your guests will “trip” and leave.
The Fix: Keep your “path” clear. Use white space, clear headings, and one obvious next step.
3. Always land on your feet (Mobile Responsiveness).
No matter how awkward the fall, a cat has an incredible ability to adjust mid-air and land perfectly on all four paws.
The Web Lesson: Your website needs that same agility. Your guest might find you on a giant desktop monitor, a tablet, or a tiny smartphone screen. If your site “falls” (looks broken) on mobile, you lose trust.
The Fix: We build every Hostperia site to be “Wonderfully Made” for every device. Your site should “land on its feet” no matter where it’s viewed.
2. Curiosity only lasts as long as the “Red Dot.”
A cat will chase a laser pointer with 100% intensity—until the red dot disappears. Once the light is gone, they lose interest and go take a nap.
The Web Lesson: You have about 5 seconds to capture a visitor’s curiosity before they “nap” (click away). If your website takes too long to load or your message is confusing, that spark of interest vanishes.
The Fix: Your “Red Dot” is your Headline. Make it bright, clear, and impossible to ignore. Tell them exactly what you do the moment they land on your page.
4. Trust is earned, not demanded.
You can’t force a cat to love you. You have to provide a safe environment, good food, and consistent care. Only then will they curl up on your lap.
The Web Lesson: You can’t demand a sale the second someone visits your site. You have to earn their trust first by showing you understand their pain and have the expertise to help.
The Fix: Use your “About” page to tell your story. Share testimonials. Show them that behind the “IT Company,” there are real humans (and real cats) who care about their success.
The Hostperia Wrap-Up
At the end of the day, web design isn’t just about code; it’s about creating a space where people feel comfortable, guided, and “at home.”
Whether you’re still in the Crafting Workshop or ready for your Grand Opening, remember: Keep it clean, keep them curious, and always land on your feet.
